Gaye Hunt - Legal Executive

Gaye works as a Legal Executive in the Healthcare team at Hayes solicitors. Prior to taking up this role she was Office Manager in Hayes for 10 years.

Gaye works regularly in the area of disciplinary hearings before the Medical and Dental Councils. She also works closely with partners in clinical negligence claims and specifically in the preparation of high value High Court Claims. In her capacity as Office Manager she introduced and implemented various initiatives in risk management area reflecting current best practice.

Experience

Work in the context of clinical negligence claims:

  • Liaising and corresponding with clients and experts
  • Reviewing medical records, pleadings and preparing letters of instruction to experts
  • Drafting Notice for Particulars, letters of request for discovery and schedule of witnesses
  • Preparing brief for counsel for ex parte applications, motions and trial.
  • Liaising with witnesses for trial and attending same

Work in the context of Medical and Dental Councils:

  • Receiving the complaint and initiating correspondence with the Medical/Dental Council
  • Attending meetings, in tandem with the solicitor, with the doctor or dentist to discuss the complaint
  • Receiving medical/dental records, meeting clients with solicitors and assisting solicitors in drafting initial Statement of Response.
  • Preparing records and liaising with independent expert re issues to be reviewed before the Medical/Dental Councils/ Fitness to Practise/Preliminary Proceedings Committee.

Work in the context of Office Manager:

  • Responsible for budget and leading cost saving initiative
  • Responsible motivating a team of secretarial and administrative staff
  • Responsible for initiating various in house management systems as part of ongoing quality/efficiency project in order to provide increased/enhanced service to clients and in the area of risk management across the board and particularly in the Healthcare team.
