Catherine advises both employers and employees, in relation to contentious and non-contentious employment matters, including contracts of employment, workplace policies, workplace investigations, statutory compliance, redundancies and dismissals.

Catherine joined the firm as a trainee and qualified as a solicitor in 2016.

Experience

High-value and complicated litigation including injunctions and judicial review proceedings in the High Court, as well as all forms of employee disputes in the Circuit Court, Workplace Relations Commission and Labour Court.

Restructurings for both employer and employee clients and all associated issues that can arise in this context. Catherine has significant experience on advising on the collective redundancy and individual redundancy processes and connected risks that arise for national, international and global companies.

Complex termination scenarios for both employers and employees which require strategic, commercial thinking to create an exit strategy and strong negotiation skills in order to reach the desired outcome.

Due diligence projects regarding employment issues that can arise on international corporate transactions, particularly mergers and acquisitions. Catherine is frequently required to provide immediate quick and clear advice on ad hoc queries that arise over the life of the corporate transaction on employment matters.

Advising clients on a broad range of issues regarding flexible and remote working arrangements, Transfer Regulations, zero-hours contracts, new issues and rights, including statutory sick pay and domestic violence leave, as well as various other issues which arise during the life cycle of any employment arrangement, as well as the impact of EU and national judgments and decisions on those arrangements.

Disciplinary and grievance procedures, internal investigations, suspensions, disciplinary hearings and appeals.

Statutory compliance including maternity, paternity and parental rights, working time, payment of wages, health and safety, notice periods, equality, fixed-term, part-time and agency workers, data protection and protected disclosures.

Advising on all types of contracts of employment, including executive level, C-suite appointments and associated bonus schemes and incentive programmes, including STIPs and LTIPs.

Workplace policies and procedures including employee handbooks, disciplinary procedures, bullying and harassment policies, data protection and privacy notices and whistleblowing policies.

Negotiation of European Works Council Agreements pursuant to EU European Works Council Recast Directive (2009/38/EC).

Notification requirements and ongoing obligations of employers regarding the posting of workers under the EU Posted Workers Framework Directive (2014/67/EU).
