The team also provides expert advice and representation to Irelands largest healthcare regulator.

Kevin has substantial litigation experience, including the defence of medical negligence claims on behalf of the HSE as well as individual medical and dental practitioners.

Experience

Kevin is highly experienced in advising on the early resolution of regulatory complaints against health professionals. He advises medical practitioners and their indemnity bodies on the strategic management, from a regulatory perspective, of internal complaints, review group hearings and participation at Inquests, which often have a high public profile.

Kevin is known for his attention to detail and pragmatic approach, securing excellent results for many clinicians coming before their regulatory bodies, both in terms of outcome and in the resolution of the matters with minimal reputational and professional impact.

He is highly experienced in coronial law, regularly representing clinicians and hospitals at Inquest. Kevin has been retained by clinicians and indemnifiers to represent clinicians’ interests in parallel proceedings and regulatory fora, advising in relation to Commissions of Investigation and Oireachtas Committees.

Kevin has contributed articles on regulatory and new legislative matters to professional publications. He frequently makes presentations in relation to healthcare regulation and related topics at medico legal seminars, to audiences of clinicians, lawyers, indemnifiers and regulators. Kevin was invited to provide input to a targeted stakeholders meeting with representatives of the Colleges and Doctor’s unions on the new ethical guidelines for doctors published in 2024 and he is regularly invited to contribute to the Medical Council Stakeholders Forum to represent the interests of medical practitioners in discussions relating to the reform and the evolution of practice and procedures.
