Matthew is a partner in the Commercial and Business team in Hayes solicitors. Matthew is a trusted advisor on a wide range of commercial and regulatory matters as well as media law, intellectual property law and professional discipline.

He has advised extensively in civil and administrative law disputes. His dispute resolution experience includes high value commercial dispute litigated in the Irish Commercial Court, the prosecution and defence of criminal proceedings in the professional context, the prosecution and defence of judicial review proceedings connected to matters of administrative and/or commercial significance and commercial arbitration.

Matthew has advised clients on a wide range of regulatory context including professional services, financial services, healthcare provision, education, media and the charity sector.

Experience

Civil Litigation and Dispute Resolution – advising on the prosecution and defence of high value commercial claims, judicial review proceedings, litigation in the professional context, defamation claims, construction disputes, landlord and tenant disputes and general commercial disputes.

Regulation – advising professionals and their indemnifiers concerning a wide range of issues in both litigious and regulatory contexts. Advising service providers in relation to disciplinary investigations by their regulators. Advising trade associations and representative bodies on changes to regulation and administrative practices.

Restructuring and insolvency – advising in relation to statutory restructuring and insolvency processes including Examinerships, SCARPs, Receiverships and Liquidations.

Intellectual Property and Media – advising on copyright, including online and digital copyright, pre-publication matters, the commercial exploitation of online content and defamation law.

Data Protection – advising a wide range of domestic and international clients concerning their obligations under the General Data Protection Regulation and E-Privacy law.

Other

Matthew has lectured on subjects such as the Irish legal system, the role of the expert witness in civil litigation, consumer law and business formation.

He also presents to professionals including accountants, architects, veterinarians and fellow lawyers on a wide range of issues concerning their professional responsibilities.

Matthew has delivered talks to clients, fellow lawyers and industry associations on data protection.
