The delay in updating the legislation governing cookies in line with the General Data Protection Regulation has caused considerable uncertainty regarding how to obtain cookie consent lawfully.

On 14 August 2019, the Data Protection Commission (“DPC”) announced the publication of a new guidance note entitled “A Quick Guide to GDPR Breach Notifications.”

February 2019 saw the Data Protection Commission publish its first annual report since the introduction of the General Data Protection Regulation on 25 May 2018.

Since the decision of the European Court of Justice (as it then was) in Google Spain v Agencia Espanola de Proteccion de Datos (2014), there has been a proliferation of similar applications to search engines and related platforms from private individuals.
