Lyn is an experienced adviser on a wide range of legal and medico-legal issues. She advises medical practitioners, indemnity bodies, healthcare facilities and regulatory bodies in respect of a wide variety of issues, including reporting obligations, data protection issues and Freedom of Information, capacity, consent, confidentiality, mental health law and Medical Ethics/ Codes of Conduct.
Regulatory – acting for medical and healthcare professionals in regulatory complaints and inquiries concerning alleged professional misconduct and alleged impairment of capacity to practise. Lyn presents applications before Disciplinary Committees of regulators. She has particular experience in advising on matters with parallel regulatory and criminal proceedings, cross-jurisdictional elements and interim suspension applications before regulators and the High Court. She advises registrants on internal investigations and Inquests with potential implications for regulatory investigations and prosecutions.
Lyn’s experience includes acting for healthcare regulators in professional Fitness to Practise Inquiries concerning a wide variety of clinical matters, including obstetrics and gynaecology, emergency medicine, surgical errors, delayed diagnosis, psychiatry, prescribing and dispensing errors.
Lyn advises on regulatory issues with a trans-jurisdictional element, including situations involving disciplinary issues, investigations and/or findings in another jurisdiction and implications for registration/ applications for registration in Ireland.
Advisory – advising healthcare practitioners, indemnity bodies, healthcare facilities and regulatory bodies on issues including regulatory inspection and enforcement, reporting obligations, Freedom of Information, data protection, capacity, consent, confidentiality, mental health law and medical ethics/ codes of conduct.
Litigation – acting for individual medical practitioners, indemnity bodies and hospitals in defending medical negligence claims.
Inquests – advising hospitals and medical practitioners at Inquests, and regulators on matters arising from Inquests, including subsequent statutory Inquiries.
