In October of 2021, the Circuit Court confirmed the Data Protection Commission’s decision to fine Twitter €450,000. The DPC found that Twitter had failed to comply with various obligations regarding the notification of data breaches, including the requirement to notify the DPC within 72 hours.

The High Court procedural rules have been amended to create a new division of the Commercial Court dedicated to intellectual property cases and disputes involving complex technology issues. The Intellectual Property and Technology List came into operation on 22 October 2021.

The High Court has recently delivered judgment in a case involving an international litigant which misinterpreted Irish legal procedures with potentially damaging consequences.
