A long-awaited Government report on reform to Ireland’s defamation laws is being put to Cabinet by the Minister for Justice, according to recent media reports.

2021 has been another extraordinary year for Ireland – while it brought continued uncertainty and challenges for Irish business as we adjusted to living with COVID-19, investment into Ireland and by Irish companies outside Ireland surged.

In October of 2021, the Circuit Court confirmed the Data Protection Commission’s decision to fine Twitter €450,000. The DPC found that Twitter had failed to comply with various obligations regarding the notification of data breaches, including the requirement to notify the DPC within 72 hours.

The High Court procedural rules have been amended to create a new division of the Commercial Court dedicated to intellectual property cases and disputes involving complex technology issues. The Intellectual Property and Technology List came into operation on 22 October 2021.
