Third party financial backing of litigation is an important feature of legal processes internationally, particularly in large scale and multi-claimant actions.

The High Court has refused a challenge by a liquidator to an invoice discounting agreement entered into by the Company prior to liquidation.

The High Court recently rejected an appeal by KBC Bank Ireland to write down a portion of a debtor couple’s mortgage due to the uncertainty in the ability of the debtors to repay the warehousing portion of the loan.

The Court of Appeal recently (4 May 2017) gave judgment in a case concerning defamation by TV3 of a solicitor, Mr David Christie. In the High Court Ms Justice O’Malley had awarded damages to Mr Christie in the sum of €140,000.
