In a recent written judgment of Dublin Circuit Court (Kaminski v BallyMaguire Foods Ltd [2023] IECC 5,  a plaintiff was awarded €2,000 in compensation for “non-material damage” – in other words, non-financial loss such as anxiety or distress – in a data breach claim. 

The European Commission has adopted its adequacy decision for the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (“DPF”) and has concluded that the United States ensures an adequate level of protection for personal data transferred under the DPF

On 22 May 2023, the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) announced the conclusion of its inquiry into Meta Platforms Ireland Limited (Meta). This inquiry concerned the manner in which Meta transferred personal data out of the EU to the US.
