Owen is a partner, Trust and Estate Practitioner and Chartered Tax Adviser in the Property and Private Client teams at Hayes solicitors.
He specialises in wills, probate, administration of estates, succession and tax planning, enduring powers of attorney and residential conveyancing.
He is a full member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) having come first in Ireland in the Diploma in Trusts and Estates in 2014. He is a member of the STEP Ireland Committee and the Dublin Solicitors Bar Association Probate and Taxation Committee. He qualified as a Chartered Tax Adviser in 2018 having completed the Irish Taxation Institute exams. He acts as a consultant to other solicitors’ firms in relation to private client matters.
Wills and trusts- drafts tax efficient wills and trusts for individuals to ensure tax efficiency.
Succession planning- provides succession planning advice to families regarding transfer of properties in a tax efficient manner. Advises families on tax efficient wealth transfers and Capital Acquisitions Tax reliefs such as business property relief and agricultural relief.
Administration of estates and trusts-
Administers estates and trusts, including those comprising multi-jurisdictional assets and beneficiaries, extracting Grants of Representation, filing Capital Acquisitions Tax returns, preparing estate accounts and distribution of assets to beneficiaries.
Advises on contentious issues arising in estates.
Extracts Irish Grants of Representation for foreign lawyers dealing with Irish located assets.
Enduring Powers of Attorney- Drafts and registers of enduring powers of attorney and advising attorneys on their role.
Advance healthcare directives- advises on advance healthcare directives.
Acquisition and disposal of properties- Advises on both residential and agricultural property matters including executor sales, sales on behalf of Wards of Court, sales and purchases of farms, transfers of property following family law settlements, re-mortgages and first registration applications in the Land Registry.
Owen is a lecturer and workshop tutor on the Law Society of Ireland’s Diploma in Trusts and Estates.
Owen has contributed numerous E-zine and blog articles on CAT reliefs, Local Property Tax, witnesses for wills, listing of assets in wills, cohabitants and Section 117 challenges by children.
He has delivered in-house CPD lectures on private client matters for accountants, solicitors and teachers.
