Katie is a senior associate solicitor in the Healthcare team at Hayes solicitors.

Expertise

Since joining Hayes in 2021, Katie has specialised in the defence of complex medical claims taken against both public hospitals and private clinicians, as well as dental claims taken against dentists working in the private sector. Prior to joining Hayes, Katie worked for four years in the area of insurance defence litigation, with a particular focus on personal injury claims. Prior to that, she trained in general practice with a particular focus on plaintiff personal injury claims. Through her insight in different perspectives of personal injuries litigation, Katie brings a wealth of skill and perspective to her clinical defence work.

Experience

Katie acts in the defence of doctors, dentists and public hospitals in claims arising from a diverse range of treatment including alleged dental negligence, surgical errors, misdiagnosis, delayed diagnosis, obstetric and gynaecological injury.

Katie has particular experience in complex, multi-party clinical negligence litigation both in the Circuit and High Court jurisdictions.

Katie is part of the Regulatory team in Hayes solicitors, providing advice to a major healthcare regulator in the context of professional disciplinary matters.

Katie’s experience includes working on High Court claims and involves having consultations with clients, liaising with medical professionals both in Ireland and the UK as factual and expert witnesses, assessing medico legal reports, pleadings and medical records for the purpose of advising on quantum, breach of duty and causation. Katie aims to resolve claims as effectively and sensitively as possible.

Katie has also acted on behalf of both plaintiffs and defendants in claims arising out of road traffic accidents, accidents at work and in schools, slip and fall accidents, bullying and harassment complaints.

Katie has written several articles in respect of healthcare law developments and regularly contributes to knowledge sharing meetings within the firm in respect of healthcare law development and litigation.
