Anita Puri is a senior associate solicitor in the Healthcare team at Hayes solicitors. Anita’s practice covers a range of disciplines, including defending professionals involved in regulatory and disciplinary proceedings, and advising clinical practitioners and indemnity bodies on the defence of clinical negligence claims.

Prior to joining Hayes solicitors, Anita worked in London, where she specialised in healthcare law. She trained and worked post qualification at an established Legal 500 firm in London, gaining experience in defending healthcare professionals in the full spectrum of healthcare litigation including regulatory proceedings, hospital disciplinary investigations, inquests, criminal litigation and clinical negligence claims.

Experience

Clinical negligence – Anita maintains a broad practice in defending clinical negligence claims arising from a wide range of issues including delay in diagnosis and surgical errors. She also has ample expertise in dental claims. Anita has invaluable experience of both England/Wales and Irish legal systems.

Regulatory defence – Anita has extensive experience defending clinical practitioners in regulatory and disciplinary proceedings in the UK and Ireland. She has successfully advised and represented practitioners at all stages of fitness to practise proceedings and has covered a range of allegations relating to conduct (including clinical care, financial irregularity, ethical issues and criminal offences), competency and health.

Regulatory prosecution – Anita has experience in conducting fitness to practise investigations in respect of healthcare professionals, including nurses and midwives.

Inquests – Over the years, Anita has represented numerous clients at Inquests, assisting them in preparation for and attendance at Inquests across the UK and Ireland.

Medical indemnifier – Anita has experience working with a UK based medical defence organisation where she advised medical practitioners on a range of legal matters affecting them in the course of their medical practice, including issues relating to consent, GDPR, confidentiality, professional responsibilities and patient complaints.

Judicial Review/Statutory Appeals – Anita has experience advising clients on fair procedures and representing clients in Judicial Review proceedings and Statutory Appeals against regulatory bodies.
