She is a highly experienced litigator and adviser in healthcare cases concerning catastrophic injury and regulatory and complaints issues.
Louise has over 25 years litigation experience, with almost 20 years working closely with hospitals and clinicians solely in healthcare law matters. She is known for expertise in the defence of high value and highly sensitive clinical litigation, particularly catastrophic birth, neurodevelopmental and spinal injury cases with complex liability and care issues.
She specialises in fast-tracked cases and is skilled in undertaking swift and expert investigations to ensure that her client’s positions are not undermined by expedited trials. Louise also works closely with clinicians on regulatory and complaints matters.
Provides expert negotiation skills in representing the interests of clients in various resolution processes.
Advises on each stage of the regulatory cycle – from preliminary proceedings through fitness to practise hearings up to High Court confirmation applications.
Represents clients before the coroner’s courts and has a detailed understanding of practice and procedure.
Represents clinicians in interim suspension applications, hearings before regulators and before the President of the High Court.
Advises on matters such as change of ethical codes, judicial review, open disclosure, data protection, coronial law and a wide range of issues concerning clinical practice.
Louise has been invited to the Medical Council’s annual stakeholders meeting and has contributed to suggested changes to its Guide to Professional Standards and Ethics for registered medical practitioners.
She is a regular invited speaker at the Law Society of Ireland’s Diploma in Healthcare Law and has lectured at the UCD Graduate Diploma in Healthcare Law and at the Kings Inns Diploma in Medical Law.
