Laura O'Farrell - Associate

Laura is an associate in the Commercial & Business team at Hayes Solicitors. She practices in commercial litigation and dispute resolution and acts for a variety of companies, financial institutions, State bodies and individuals in contract law cases, enforcement and recovery actions and general commercial litigation matters. Laura also provides advice on a wide range of commercial and business law matters and regulatory requirements including data protection law and reviewing and drafting commercial contracts.

Laura joined the firm as a trainee solicitor in 2017 and qualified in 2019.

Laura joined the firm as a trainee solicitor in 2017 and qualified in 2019. 

Experience

  • Debt Proceedings - Laura advises clients in relation to debt recovery proceedings before the District Court, Circuit Court and High Court.
  • Enforcement of security - Laura has assisted in a number of high profile enforcement matters before the High Court. She also has experience of enforcing security in Australia, having acted for a number of top Australian banks prior to joining the firm. Laura also worked for the National Asset Management Agency assisting with the completion of large loan portfolio sales.
  • Professional regulatory matters - Laura has assisted in defending Fitness to Practice complaints and defence of civil and criminal matters in the professional sphere. She has assisted in defending professional negligence actions and internal appeals to committees of professional bodies.
  • Defamation - Laura has assisted in defending numerous high value defamation cases. 
  • Personal injury – Laura has been involved in a number of personal injury cases, both defending and prosecuting, in the areas of employers’ liability and public liability.
  • Data protection law - Laura advises companies and State bodies on general data protection obligations as well as specific queries in respect of data access requests.
  • In-house experience — Laura completed a secondment in the Employment Litigation Team of a high profile Irish commercial bank.

  • BA (Legal Science and Economics), National University of Ireland Galway
  • LL.B, National University of Ireland Galway
  • Professional qualification as a solicitor, Law Society of Ireland, 2019
