Katy is a partner in the Healthcare team at Hayes solicitors. Katy is dual qualified as a nurse and healthcare solicitor. She has over 9 years' healthcare litigation experience working in leading firms in both Ireland and the UK. Katy advises clinical practitioners and their indemnity bodies on the defence of medical negligence claims.

Prior to joining Hayes solicitors, Katy worked with an established Legal 500 and Chambers ranked UK firm, practising as a plaintiff healthcare solicitor advising on a wide range of clinical negligence claims. Katy’s unique experience as a nurse and lawyer has provided her with significant expertise in both clinical and legal matters.

Experience

  • Katy has extensive experience defending High Court and Circuit Court claims arising from a wide variety of medical injuries such as: gynaecological injury,  brain injury, orthopaedic injury, vascular injury, delay in cancer diagnosis, and mismanagement of infection.
  • Katy works on catastrophic injury cases as part of a team based approach. These are high values claims which involve comprehensive investigations into issues of liability including in depth analysis of complex medico legal opinion. The investigations can also involve forensic analysis of complex schedules of special damage.
  • Katy routinely advises on Inquests and acts as an advocate before the Coroner’s Court.
  • As well as contentious matters Katy has advised client’s on issues of consent and confidentiality and prior to joining Hayes Katy has also advised on the regulations involving the online advertising of pharmacies together with the sale of medicinal products.

  • Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Studies, Dublin Institute of Technology
  • Bachelor of Nursing, Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia
