On 06 August 2020, the Civil Law and Criminal Law (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2020 (the “Act”) was signed into law, aimed primarily at responding to the challenges that the Irish legal profession and courts system face in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Civil Law and Criminal Law (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2020 was signed into law on 6 August 2020 to respond to the challenges that the Irish legal profession faces due to Covid-19.

In a District Court prosecution this week, CORU succeeded in obtaining convictions in respect of two individuals who were found to be using the titles of ‘Occupational Therapist’ and ‘Speech and Language Therapist’ without the requisite CORU registration,

CORU, the Health and Social Care Professionals Council, is the regulator for a number of health and social care professions, including Social Workers; Radiologists, Speech and Language Therapists and Occupational Therapists, amongst others.

2019 has seen significant change in the area of pharmacy regulation, with even greater change anticipated in 2020.

Most Irish companies are required to maintain an internal register of its beneficial owners. There is also now an important new obligation to file information about the beneficial owners to a new Central Register, maintained by the CRO.
