As 2017 draws to a close, I thank you on behalf of all of us at Hayes solicitors for your support during the course of the year. It’s been another eventful year, full of unpredictability and challenges, and I suspect it will be more of the same in 2018.

In the recent case of An Area Manager v A Transport Company ADJ-0000577, the complainant argued that he was being discriminated against on the grounds of gender as he did not receive the same top-up to his salary whilst on Paternity Leave that a female employee would while on Maternity Leave.

On 19 September 2017, the Government’s Chief Whip, Joe McHugh released the Government’s Autumn Legislative Programme. The Employment (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill (“the Bill”) is flagged for priority publication this legislative session.

The recent case of A Bookkeeper v A Retail Business addressed the issue of retirement and age discrimination under the Employment Equality Acts 1998 – 2015 (the “Acts”).
