Joe O'Malley - Managing Partner

Joe is Managing Partner and Head of the Commercial Litigation & Dispute Resolution team at Hayes solicitors.

He is President of Dublin Solicitors’ Bar Association. He is a Council Member of Law Society of Ireland. He is Chairman of Danske Bank’s Tracker Appeals Panel. Joe has advised the US Securities and Exchange Commission in relation to their investigations in Ireland.

Experience

  • Represented IBRC (in special liquidation) in its €6bn claim against former directors of Irish Nationwide which resolved in April 2015.
  • Acts for one of the Defendants in the Belfry Litigation currently before the Commercial Court involving more than 300 claims arising out of property investments in the UK.
  • Represents one of the main truck dealers in relation to mass litigation before the Competition Court arising out of a finding by the European Commission of a truck cartel.
  • Represents a Statutory Receiver in relation to a multi-million euro property damages claim against Dairygold scheduled for hearing before the High Court in July 2018.
  • Acted for Worldspreads Limited (in special liquidation) in its claim against EY which exceeded £20m relating to auditors’ negligence.
  • Acts for Kieran Wallace as liquidator of Cork Medical Centre (in voluntary liquidation) in a multi-million euro claim against VHI for refusal to provide cover for this new hospital facility.
  • Acts for a large nursing home provider in relation to a property damages claim arising out of a high value land transaction currently before the Commercial Court. 
  • Handles a variety of insurance cover claims involving property owners.
  • Advised the Managing Partner of a leading stockbroking firm in relation to a Central Bank of Ireland Inquiry.

  • Bachelor of Civil Law Degree University College Dublin
  • Master of Laws in Commercial Law, University College Dublin
  • Professional qualification as a solicitor, Law Society of Ireland, 2002
  • Professional Practice 1 & 2, Law Society of Ireland
  • Diploma in Applied Finance Law, Law Society of Ireland.
