This month, Coimisiún na Meán, or the Media Commission, published a draft Online Safety Code for video-sharing platforms.
Developing the Online Safety Code has been one of the key priorities for Coimisiún na Meán since it was established in March this year.
The Code will apply to video-sharing platform services and providers of those services. It is intended to ensure that providers take appropriate measures to protect children from harmful content, including age-inappropriate and illegal content, and to assist with protection of the public from content which constitutes incitement of violence or hatred, provocation to commit a terrorist offence and other similar content.
As required by the Online Safety and Media Regulation Act 2022, Coimisiún na Meán is now seeking views from any interested parties on the contents of the draft Code. The deadline for responses is 19 January 2024.
The draft Code and the consultation document can be found here.
