Hilary Muldowney - Partner

Hilary is a partner in the Healthcare team at Hayes solicitors. She has significant experience in all aspects of healthcare law, having concentrated on that area since joining the firm in 1995. She has represented healthcare professionals, doctors and hospitals in medical and dental actions in all courts, as well as at Medical Council inquiries and inquests.

Hilary has particular expertise in complex high value claims extending to catastrophic injury and fatal cases. She regularly advises clients on ethical and health and safety issues. Hilary liaises closely with doctors and nurses who are called to give evidence at inquests and frequently attends inquests to protect their interests.

Experience

  • Advising healthcare professionals in the 24 hour medico-legal advisory services provided by Hayes solicitors.
  • Coroners Court - Hilary has a wealth of experience in acting for hospitals and HSE healthcare professionals in the Coroner’s Court and has built an excellent relationship with the coroners in this jurisdiction
  • Particular expertise in complex, high value claims and forensic quantum analysis.
  • Hilary has dealt with several high profile cases involving claims for post-traumatic stress disorder. She has been successful in keeping quantum to a minimum in appropriate cases
  • Involved in potential cases arising out of patients acquiring MRSA and Clostridium Difficile in hospitals
  • Providing telephone advice on all areas of medical and healthcare law to healthcare providers employed by the HSE at the request of the Department of Health prior to the service being taken over by the State Claims Agency.

  • BA Mod Hons, Trinity College Dublin
  • Diploma in Legal Studies, Dublin Institute of Technology          
  • Professional qualification as a solicitor, Law Society of Ireland, 1997.

  • Hilary frequently gives lectures on aspects of healthcare law and has lectured on: medico-legal aspects of breast disease; whistleblowers; consent and confidentiality; mental health issues; clinical trials; record-keeping and procedural matters, and inquests.
